Seattle Mind Camp 1.0 and why to start my own blog now

Posted in Uncategorized on Nov 07, 2005

I have been reading blogs for now close to three years. Initially, I enjoyed more being a voyeur and read about other’s people activities and thoughts in topics I was interested. The more I was reading the more I was intrigue about start writing myself. Two years ago my sister started her own blog (if you can read Spanish I highly recommend it) and later on my wife started one as well (I cannot give you the address here, she will not forgive me if I do this, one day I will tell you why….). So why starting now? Well, this weekend I attended Seattle Mind Camp and that was the event that finally trigger my decision to start a blog. I will be posting about the event but most of the cool people that I meet there blog and the passion they had when they spoke about it finally made me wanted to be part of that community. The other reason that I was hesitant to start my own blog was corporate responsibility. I am the CEO of a software company so I was concern about the potential impact of me writing publicly. Well, to avoid that, I will not talk at all about my company (well, I will try not at least unless there is something really cool happening…) and I will try to stick to a set of core principles about corporate blogging that IBM bloggers come up with and I think it pretty reasonable.

So what I will be writing about? Well, as the title say, "Un Poco de Todo", which in Spanish means a bit of everything. My interests are broad (perhaps too much so I cannot keep up with all of them and my own workload) but mainly, the topics that I will cover are (in no particular order): business, technology, gadgets, cool things that I came across, globalization, books, movies, fashion, and, of course, weblogs and blogging and how that is affecting how we communicate and receive information.

If you have any suggestions about the style, content or anything else, please feel free to let me know.

I am the director for Internet and Multimedia for Telefónica R&D, based in Barcelona where I managed their R&D center. I have been a bit all over the place for the last 15 years, specially in Tokyo, my favorite town, and finally came back in mid 2006 to my home town. I like everything that has to do with the Internet, computers, software and gadgets, not just the geeky aspect but also the business side. I also love reading (business essays mainly) and TV series and movies as well as having a good dinner and night out with my friends.
